The nyckelharpa<\/strong> is a fascinating musical instrument. Since the 60s of the last century it celebrated its rediscovery first in Sweden, spread rapidly and developed from a folk instrument almost unknown in this country to a string instrument internationally recognized today in many different musical fields. <\/p>\n

Their unique, expressive sound inspires, arouses curiosity and awakens in many people the desire to learn this instrument. For a long time, there were few teaching or playing courses outside Sweden. This new textbook “Playing the Nyckelharpa” by Jule Bauer now wants to remedy that! <\/p>\n

The author has long had a close relationship with the nyckelharpa and was the first graduate of the “European Nyckelharpa Training”. Since 2003 she has taught voice and nyckelharpa at various early music and world music courses and since 2009 she has been a lecturer for nyckelharpa at the Akademie BURG F\u00dcRSTENECK (D), the Scuola di Musica Popolare di Forlimpopoli (I) and since 2012 at the Conservatoire intercommunal de musique des deux vall\u00e9es in Milly la For\u00eat (F). <\/p>\n

The well thought out, and already well proven in practice, pedagogical concept of this textbook guarantees the best guidance one could wish for when beginning to explore the nyckelharpa. It teaches all the essential basics to play and know the nyckelharpa, such as the history and construction of the nyckelharpa, the structure of the instrument, instrument posture, bowing, tuning, and important musical fundamentals. <\/p>\n

One is systematically guided from the first bow stroke to the art of playing in the different keys and styles. In the appendix, the author deals with important physiological aspects to consider when practicing and making music. <\/p>\n

The more than 50 melodies included provide an exciting and varied repertoire that is carefully adapted to the learning progress. Numerous exercises support working through the 22 chapters. Many illustrations clarify the learning content or show interesting facts from the world of the nyckelharpa. <\/p>\n

All melodies and exercises in the textbook “Playing the Nyckelharpa” are designed for chromatic nyckelharpa with three rows of keys and notated for both continental tuning (fifth-quint-quint) and traditional Swedish tuning (sixth-quart-quint).<\/p>\n

With a foreword by Per-Ulf Allmo. The book “Playing the Nyckelharpa” is written bilingually in English and German. <\/p>\n
