Beginner Practice Chanter by Tru-Tone (Scotland)

Anyone who wants to learn to play the Scottish Highland bagpipes or smallpipes first needs a practice flute, known as the practice chanter (PC for short). This instrument accompanies every piper—whether beginner or professional—for a lifetime.

Here we offer you a truly excellent practice chanter for learning to play the bagpipes. The instrument is made in Scotland and comes at a great price!

This instrument, manufactured north of Edinburgh, is carefully crafted from high-quality Polypenco plastic. The finger holes are easy to feel. The reed is not included and must be ordered separately.

This simple Practice Chanter has proven itself in bagpipe lessons at many schools across Scotland; it is well-tuned and easy to maintain. By doing away with unnecessary frills, this excellent instrument offers outstanding value for the price!

The practice chanter is built to standard length—the spacing between the tone holes is designed so that the finger span is about 1 cm shorter than that of the “full-size” bagpipe chanter. This helps beginners, in particular, get used to the correct hand position.

The reed holder is designed so that the position of the reed can be adjusted very easily. This allows you to quickly insert a new reed so that the chanter is accurately tuned.
