The Songs of the Minnesinger Reinmar von Brennenberg by Frank S. Wunderlich

Description

The minnesinger Reinmar (II.) von Brennenberg probably came from a ministerial family that named itself after Brennberg Castle near Regensburg. His name lived on (until the 16th century and beyond) in the tradition of the ‘Brennberg clay’ or in the surviving saga of the violent death of the Bremberger (Reinmar III, + around 1276). The preface refers to the current state of research. (cf. www.minnesang.com, Reinmar von Brennenberg).

This booklet contains all the songs and song texts that have been handed down in the Codex Manesse by Reinmar von Brennenberg. In the Heidelberg song manuscript there are a total of four minnelieder (without melody) and an unusual tone (song IV), the so-called Brannenberger or Bremberger tone, the melody of which is preserved in the Kolmar song manuscript, among others.

The first part of this music book comprises first of all the above-mentioned surviving Brennberg tone (song 4) with its total of 13 stanzas according to the manuscript C.

The second part contains the four minnelieder (Lied 1, 2, 3 + 5) in new settings by Frank S. Wunderlich in Doric, Phrygian, Lydian and Hypomixolydian tone (13 stanzas).
