Description

Welcome to the captivating course series “Three Favorite Pieces with…”. Immerse yourself in the musical world of famous bagpipers and be enchanted by the precious treasures of their favorite pieces. Here you will find a rich selection of musical gems that you can discover and enjoy piece by piece, like a child in a candy store. Feel the inspiring power of this unique course series!

In this special class, Calum MacCrimmon of Breabach joins you to share his passion for three unique favorites:

  • Maol Donn (Pibroch Ground)
  • Lord Lovat’s (Strathspey)
  • The White Houses of Shieldaig (Reel)

You’ll gain insight into the stylistics and sources from which these pieces originated. Calum’s own Canntaireachd style will help you better understand and play “Maol Donn”.

Over 75 minutes of video footage is waiting for you to explore. And don’t worry if English isn’t your native language – German subtitles will ensure effortless understanding.

But that is not all! Calum illustrates the essence of the pieces on a musical level so that players of other bagpipe forms or instruments can enjoy and adapt the pieces.

At your own pace, you can watch the instructional videos over and over again and familiarize yourself with the melodies at different speeds. In addition, you will receive the sheet music for the pieces as a PDF in duplicate: both in the notation typical for Scottish bagpipers and in the “standard notation” for “other instruments”. So you can make the musical pearls sound on different instruments!

Who is this course suitable for? Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, this course has something special for you. The melodies have the range of a ninth and come from the Scottish repertoire, so they are easily playable by bagpipers like Great Highland Bagpipe, Borderpipe and Scottish Smallpipe. The three pieces are graded in difficulty, with “Maol Donn” (level 5) accessible from about 24 months of playing experience, “Lord Lovat’s” (level 7) not too technically complex, but the accented rhythm of “Strathspeys” challenging. “The White Houses of Shieldaig” (Level 6) is a smooth, well-rounded reel that’s a lot of fun!

Are you ready to reveal the secrets and beauty of these favorite pieces? Dive into the course series “Three Favorite Pieces with…” now and get inspired by the passionate music of Calum MacCrimmons!
