Description

Hümmelchen and Dudey we manufacture and distribute since 1985!  

These bagpipes are soft sounding, easy to play and reliable musical instruments played with baroque flute fingering. “Quiet” these bagpipes are because the chanter is drilled with with cylindrical bore. The advantage of this design is that they blend tonally with other instruments and do not sound dominant.

The instruments are technically designed for easy operation and reliable function.

Hümmelchen and Dudey differ in the number and tuning of the drone pipes. They are perfectly suited for playing together with (recorder) flutes, string instruments, crumhorns, cornamuses, string instruments, but also with harpsichord, portative and other historical musical instruments.

Range

By default we deliver the instruments with Soprano chanter c’ – d” (None). Alternatively, other optional chimes can be used. All chanters can be inserted easily and without danger to the reed via the integrated wind capsule system.

Hümmelchen and Dudey play in F major, C major and D minor / Dorian 

Repertoire

The repertoire suitable for these instruments includes melodies from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque (such as those contained in the collection “Spielmanns Notenbuch”), traditional dance melodies with the range of a ninth, up to folk (dance) songs and newly composed drone music.

Execution

   – The instruments are made of high quality and best suited Elsbeer wood. Alternatively and for an additional charge other wood species are available. 

   – The ornamental rings are made of the very beautiful artificial ivory Ivoirine, on request and for an additional charge also from cow horn.

   – The bag is made of high quality cowhide, or (alternatively and without extra charge) of a synthetic bag from the company Canmore with artificial leather surface.

   – The durable reeds and reliable valve are made of plastic.

   – Fingering chart and short playing instructions

   – Accessory set (winding thread, spare valve flap and cleaning brush)

You are welcome to pick up your new instrument from us and will then receive thorough instruction and tips on how to play it properly.

Warranty and maintenance

Of course, you will receive the legal warranty. In addition, you have the option of having your instrument serviced and retuned by us on a regular basis. We offer inspection and re-tuning once a year at no cost. You pay only the shipping costs for delivery and return. If, in our opinion, further work or repairs are required at a charge, we will notify you in advance.

Hümmelchen with 2 tunable drones in high drone tuning made of Elsbeer wood with Ivoirine ornamental rings.

This “high” drone tuning with alto and soprano drone prefers the key of F major (with F and c1 drone). But also C major (with g – c1- drone) and d minor/dorian (with a – d1 drone) can be tuned.

Both drones can be retuned and, if necessary, closed with plugs to set the desired accompanying tone.

Upon request and without surcharge we are happy to equip your bagpipe with a new type of bag from the world-famous manufacturer Canmore, which is not made of leather and no longer needs to be sealed. The surface of these bags is like imitation leather (similar to Alcatara).
