Description
Are you ready to expand your pibroch repertoire? “Ceòl Mòr” or “Pibroch” is a fascinating form of functional music from the Scottish Highlands. And now we offer you a unique approach to it – through Canntaireachd, the traditional coded teaching and learning language of Scottish pipers.
Our focus is on the Campbell Canntaireachd, one of the largest, most important, and oldest sources of pibroch with a full 168 pieces. For this purpose we have edited and compiled the publications of Allan MacDonald of Glenuig and Thomas Zöller.
Our goal is to increase awareness of the Campbell Canntaireachd. The interpretations presented are based on intensive research and cultural intuition by Allan MacDonald.
In each issue of the Canntaireachd project you get:
- The complete transcription of Campbell Canntaireachd from the original manuscript. Edits and footnotes included.
- The conversion of the Canntaireachd into musical notation. So you can play the pieces and follow the canntaireachd at the same time as “lyrics”.
- The relevant historical context to each piece. Dive into the background of the music.
- The recording of the Grounds, played by Allan MacDonald, and the Canntaireachd, sung by Thomas Zöller. This way you can enjoy the full sound experience.
- The complete Pibroch, played by Allan MacDonald. Experience music in all its glory.
In this edition, “Park Piobaireachd No. 1”, you will receive the complete transcribed and edited Canntaireachd, transcribed into musical notation including the Canntaireachd vocabulary. And as a special highlight you will also find a recording of the complete Pibroch played by Allan MacDonald, as well as a wonderful recording of the Grounds sung by Thomas Zöller.
