This beautifully designed three-volume collection contains a total of 85 songs and 162 dances from the 13th century to the 20th century.
The melodies of the first two volumes were collected during the years 1981 – 1983 at the meetings of bagpipe and hurdy-gurdy players in Eveshausen in Hunsrück. The purpose of this collection was to preserve the international music repertoire gathered at these meetings and also to pass it on to other musicians.
The songs and dances are mostly notated for one voice and are easy to play. A large part of the melodies is especially suitable for drone instruments such as bagpipes and hurdy-gurdy.
The numerous illustrations in all three volumes were lovingly drawn by Martina Sirtl from photographs of musicians and instrument makers or from models of historical engravings and woodcuts.
