50 Melodien für die mittelalterliche Sackpfeife Band 1

Die Idee zu dieser Notensammlung für die weit verbreiteten Instrumente kommt von Brian Haase (FABULA) und Thomas Zöller (ehemals Estampie), die gemeinsam an der von Thomas gegründeten Dudelsack-Akademie in Hofheim unterrichten. Der oft kritisierte Mangel an gutem und geeignetem Notenmaterial brachte beide auf die Idee, die Sache selbst in die Hand zu nehmen und dabei eigene Spieltechniken samt musikalischen Ideen mit einfließen zu lassen.

Dabei geben die beiden in diesem Notenheft aber nicht nur eine Sammlung von interessanten und für die Sackpfeifen passenden Melodien, sondern darüber hinaus Hinter grund informationen zu den Stücken, Verweise zu den Komponisten und regionale Zuordnungen zur Herkunft der Musik. Fast ein Jahr wurde Material gesammelt, Stücke hin und her arrangiert und Kontakt mit Kollegen gesucht, die zu bestimmten Aspekten des Repertoires zusätzlich beraten konnten.

Der erste Band der Sammlung beinhaltet nun 50 Melodien für die mittelalterliche (Markt-)Sackpfeife. Sie stammen zum großen Teil aus dem traditionellen Repertoire der Bretagne, Irlands, Italiens, dem Balkan und aus Schottland. Es sind aber auch Lieder aus den Cantigas de Santa Maria und neue Kompositionen der beiden Autoren und anderer Musiker im Heft enthalten.

Das gesamte Repertoire wurde, wie schon bei der Sackpfeifen-Fibel, von Thomas Zöller und Brian Haase aufgenommen und kann jederzeit zum Anhören und Nachspielen von einer Online-Datenbank abgerufen werden.

Die Notenschrift verwendet natürlich wieder das bewährte, in der Sackpfeifen- Fibel ausführlich erklärte und gut umsetzbare Verzierungssystem für die mittelalterliche Sackpfeife. Andere Instrumente, wie z.B. Drehleier oder Schalmei, können die angegebenen Verzierungen einfach auslassen oder diese auf die für ihr Instrument passende Art und Weise übertragen.

Texte und Erläuterungen in dieser Sammlung sind in deutscher und englischer Sprache enthalten. Weitere Bände sind geplant.

As a sequel to “Sackpfeifen-Fibel”, the only available tutor for the mediaeval bagpipe, we now present a new collection of sheet music, which supplies musicians with new ideas and a fresh repertoire.

Brian Haase (FABULA) and Thomas Zöller (ex Estampie), both teachers at Thomas’s bagpipe academy, came up with the idea for a tune collection for these popular instruments. A much-criticized lack of suitable sheet music inspired them to take care of the problem themselves, making creative use of their individual playing techniques and their musical ideas.

However, this collection provides not only a compilation of interesting, playable tunes for the bagpipe, but also background information on the pieces, on the composers, and on the regional origins of the music. It took the authors almost a year to collect their material, to arrange and re-arrange the pieces and to contact colleagues who could give additional advice on certain aspects of the repertoire.

The first volume of the collection contains 50 tunes for the mediaeval bagpipe, mainly taken from the traditional repertoire of Brittany, Ireland, Italy, the Balkans, and Scotland. Also included are songs from the Cantigas de Santa Maria as well as new compositions by the authors and other musicians.

As with the “Sackpfeifen-Fibel”, the whole repertoire was recorded by Thomas Zöller and Brian Haase and can be downloaded from an online database for listening and playing along.

Of course, the notation uses again the tried and tested ornamentation system for the mediaeval bagpipe which is easy to use and explained in detail in the “Sackpfeifen-Fibel”.

Musicians with other instruments, such as hurdy-gurdy or shawm, can easily omit the ornamentation provided or adapt it for their instrument.

Texts and explanations in this collection are given in German and English. Further volumes are under preparation.
