These fascinating bagpipes are perfect for making music at home and playing together with quieter instruments such as recorders, gemshorns, stringed instruments and other historical instruments. Since 1993, these instruments have been manufactured in cooperation with our partner Jürgen Ross, who has taken over order processing and delivery from 2022.
The big buck also belongs to the Renaissance bagpipes, which we know from the depictions of Michael Praetorius from 1619. Our reconstructions are designed for versatility, ease of use and maximum reliability.

The long, cylindrical inner bore of the chanter makes the buck one of the deepest sounding bagpipes around. The sound of such whistles, which is usually also quite soft, is considerably amplified by the large, attached cattle horns at the ends. The shape and color of the horns used vary.
We offer the big buck in two tunings:
- In F tuning with one alto chanter and one drone.
(optionally tunable in F and in G) - In C tuning with a tenor chanter and a drone.
(optionally tunable in F and in G) - An optional drone extension with a special reed allows the drone to be tuned in C and D as well.
The Great Bock is played with a recorder fingering that closely resembles the baroque recorder. The chanters are interchangeable, as they are equipped with wind capsules that allow optimal protection of the reeds. The interchangeability of the chanters and the retunable drone provide extensive musical possibilities.

The bagpipes are made by us from Elsbeer wood. At the ends, we use real cow horns for the distinctive bells. All instruments are equipped with reed double reeds in the chanters and plastic single reeds in the drone.
We regularly organize beginner and advanced courses at several locations in Germany. (see courses) Here you can acquire sound knowledge and expand your playing technique under professional guidance. Several sheet music collections – but especially our bestsellers Spielmanns Notenbuch Volume 1 and 2 offer you a rich selection of melodies for your bagpipe. The optionally available CD for Spielmann’s music book shows you in an entertaining way how to use the instrument perfectly in early music groups and ensembles.
