Description
Violin and hurdy-gurdy in a two-part duet: On “Tanz’,” Hermann Haertel and Simon Wascher perform traditional dance music from Austria. The repertoire includes Ländler, Styrian dances, yodels, and Schleunige, compiled into 13 tracks, some of which consist of multi-part sequences.
The melodies come from historical Austrian collections. The duo interprets them with ornamentation, variations, and improvisational freedom. In doing so, the melodic parts of the two instruments blend with the drone sound and the rhythmic accompaniment of the hurdy-gurdy.
The album features, among other things, the “Almrausch” and “Feuerberg” suites, the “Berardie Set,” and “D’Wienern Tanz’.” If you’re interested in the hurdy-gurdy, traditional violin music, and Austrian dance forms, this recording offers a wealth of inspiration.
