Description
Founded in 1977, Kurtzweyl was one of the first groups dedicated to the revival of medieval life and is known for a performance of medieval music that goes far beyond the mere presentation of the pieces. The group’s instruments, which are modeled on the historical originals, and the sophisticated arrangements are based exclusively on the possibilities of medieval minstrels. However, a historical setting was also deliberately chosen for the recordings for this CD. They were created live in the Romanesque church of Müllenbach, with the success of an excellent and natural sound quality. The repertoire of this very listenable CD includes melodies from collections such as the Carmina Burana, the Cantigas de Santa Maria, from the Llibre Vermell, but also songs by Guillaume de Machaut, the Monk of Salzburg, Oswald von Wolkenstein and Walther von der Vogelweide – to name but a few.
